A former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has said he is ready to honour an invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission once he receives a letter to that effect over the Pandora Papers.

This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by Obi’s spokesman,  Valentine Obienyem.

The statement was titled, ‘I have not made any statement on EFCC’s invitation – Obi’.

Obi’s statement came after some reports that he had spoken on an alleged invitation by the agency to him in respect of the Pandora Papers.

Leaked files published by Nigeria’s Premium Times, showed that the Vice-Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in the 2019 election operated a foreign account, which he failed to declare in his asset declaration form provided by the Code of Conduct Bureau.

He admitted however that there was a possibility that the EFCC had invited him but the letter could have been taken to his old office address.

“From what is circulating, the letter appears to have been sent to an office he is no longer part of and is yet to reach him. Obi being a law-abiding Nigerian will honour all legitimate invitations from government agencies at all times,” the statement said.
