The Federal House of Representatives on Tuesday instructed its Committee on Police Affairs to summon Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Abubakar for explanations on the involvement of the Police in the alleged disruption of a meeting of G-7 governors that held at the Kano State Government House on Sunday.

The committee is saddled with the task of establishing the circumstances surrounding the invasion of the Kano State Governor’s Lodge by officers of the Nigeria Police Force under the command of a Divisional Police Officer (DPO). It has just two weeks to submit its findings to the House.

This resolution came after Hon. Idris Kutigi (PDP, Niger State) brought a motion to the floor of the House under matters of national importance.

Signed by 60 members, the motion was titled Impunity and Disregard to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as Amended) by the Nigeria Police Force. However, it did not receive smooth sailing, as members loyal to the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chaired by Alhaji Bamanga Tukur opposed it while those loyal to the faction chaired by Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje vehemently supported it.
