The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the names, credentials, and personal particulars of the 19 presidential candidates and their running mates for the 2027 general election, marking another milestone in the electoral process ahead of the commencement of campaigns on August 19.
The publication of the candidates’ Form EC9 is in line with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2026, which requires INEC to display the personal particulars of all nominated candidates after receiving their nomination forms. The exercise enables members of the public to examine the information submitted and, where necessary, challenge any discrepancies through the appropriate legal channels.
According to the list displayed by the commission on Saturday, President Bola Tinubu will seek re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with Vice President Kashim Shettima retaining his position as running mate.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is contesting under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and has nominated former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as his vice-presidential candidate.
Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi will represent the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), with former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso selected as his running mate.
Other presidential candidates include Sandy Onor (PDP), Omoyele Sowore (AAC), Donald Duke (PRP), Okwori Ada Elizabeth Frederick (NDP), Chukwu Anita Zugwai (YPP), Rufai Adekunle Omoaje (AA), Adenuga Sunday (Boot Party), Memeh Samuel (DLA), Nwanyanwu Daniel Danerechukwu (ZLP), Okereke Sunday Chibuzor (LP), Okereke Iken Esther (NRM), Abbas-Bin Aliyu (ADP), Dikwa Suleiman Mohammed (NNPP), Adewole Adebayo (SDP), Seyi Makinde (APM), and Yusuf Kabiru (APP).
INEC’s publication also contains the educational qualifications, dates of birth, occupations, and other personal information submitted by each candidate and running mate as part of the nomination process.
The release of the documents comes ahead of the official commencement of presidential election campaigns, scheduled for August 19, as political parties prepare to begin nationwide campaigns for the 2027 general election.
