Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has been elected as the next President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) after securing the highest number of votes in the association’s presidential election.
Badejo-Okusanya, the only female among the three presidential candidates, polled 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 percent of the 26,106 valid ballots cast. The election was conducted through electronic voting over a 24-hour period, beginning at 7:35 a.m. on Saturday and ending at 7:34 a.m. on Sunday.
With her victory, Badejo-Okusanya will become the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association and only the **second woman to lead the association since its establishment in 1933, marking the return of a female president after a 34-year gap.
In the election for General Secretary, Afam Okeke emerged victorious with 8,478 votes, defeating his opponents.
The newly elected national officers will serve a two-year term, from 2026 to 2028.
Although the President-elect was absent when the election results were announced at the NBA headquarters in Abuja due to a flight delay, a member of her campaign team, Aminu Gadanya, SAN, said she is committed to extending a handshake of friendship to her opponents and fostering unity within the association.
